The most important aspect of your literary career is developing your author platform. One of the things I want you to understand, and I’ll repeatedly talk to you about, is getting your target audience to get to know you, like you, and trust you. When you get this down, it’ll be easier to sell books and the other products and services you’ll create using the content from your book. Okay, so let’s talk about it!
Identify Your Ideal Reader. It's important for you to have a clear understanding about who your book is for. Believe it or not, your book is not for everyone. There is a specific group of people who will be drawn to and will find your content relatable. Your job is to find these people. Preferably before you publish your book, but this can still be done post-publishing.
Clearly Define Your Core Message. When someone asks you what is your book about, you should be able to explain in it one full sentence. This one sentence should be the core message for your brand. If you write more than one genre, you'll need more than one core message. Think about the message you want to convey to your readers and clearly state that message when promoting your platform.
Be Consistently & Intentional. This is by far the most important part of building your platform. How else will you sell books? You want to focus on building up your readership before putting out several books. This will also make it easier when you release new books. You'll already have a built in, targeted audience waiting on your next book.
The key to being a successful author is having a brand that you people feel connected to. You want to use your platform to share your knowledge, inspire, and provide valuable information. I know that it’s exciting to be a published author, but I want you learn how to turn your book into a profitable business. There are plenty of people who need what you have. Brand yourself, build your platform, and get your coins!
